Summer would not be summer without softball tournaments. It is with this spirit that the 12 players of SGT’s team participated in the fundraising tournament organized to benefit Centraide.13 teams challenged each other on the 26th and 27th of August at Parc Bernier in Drummondville-Quebec, one day prior to the visit of hurricane Irene. SGT’s team won 3 games before being eliminated. However the story of the day was certainly the $4,000 that was collected on behalf this great charitable organization. Our appreciation goes to all participants, organizers and partners. From left to right :Upper row: Denis Brisson, Daniel Dionne, Etienne LebelMiddle row: Ghislain Pinard, Christian Bergeron, Denis Etus Yanick Graindler, Pier-luc Coté Martin Leblanc, Alexandre DuboisOn the floor: Michel Tessier et fils
Every year, Challenge 255 gathers a growing number of visitors passionate about our profession. It is an event that features truck, motorcycle and pick-up truck races as well as a Show ‘N Shine, a job fair and a music show. This year, another record of entries was broken attesting to the popularity of the event which takes places in the village of Baie-Du-Fèbvre in the “Centre-Du-Québec” region. On the 13th and 14th of August SGT took part in the Show ‘N Shine, but also in the job fair which was held for the first time in this event.
Dragon boat races are inspired by a millennia old Chinese legend. They are also organized in Drummondville-Quebec where they are already at their 3rd Edition.Despite steeping rain parts of the day, all teams were at the starting gate on Sunday the 21st of August, including ours with a first participation. We were strong of 20 rowers and a drummer. As the 3 qualifying races unfolded, our lap time improved dramatically, as did our coordination. The culmination of our team effort crystallized in the last race where, not only did we break our own record and the psychological barrier of one minute, but we won the “Intermediary group B” race by a full boat’s length, as well.Congratulations to participants who were all inside the dragon for the first time and without practice: : Céline Courchesne, Chantal Jutras, Dany Boisvert, Eric Gagné, Etienne Lebel, Gilbert Gagnon, Gregory Sherman, Jahnir Lugo Pena, Jasmin Dion, Jean-Pierre Rabbath, Jérémy Baron, Jose Gonzalez, Julie Langlois, Laura Gonzalez, Martin Leblanc, Michel Blanchette, Stephane Gendron, Stéfanny Raymond, Steve Morin, Tommy Leblanc, Véronique Audet
The golf tournament of the « Villa Ignatia » rehabilitation center which took place on Tuesday the 16th of August ended as a resounding success on many fronts. The number of participants was a record 180 golfers. The weather was also on board. From an uncertain start, the day welcomed the sunshine and a refreshing breeze. Participants declared their pleasure and their joy to take part in the activity for a cause that was close to their heart. However, the most rewarding success of the day no doubt was the result of the fundraiser which exceeded any expectation. 58,000$ were announced by Denis Coderre, honorary president of the tournament. M. Coderre warmly thanked donators and golfers alike as he remitted the check for the amount to Doctor Huard, founder and director of the center. The program has become a model program having rendered services to over 8000 residents. Since 1983, Villa Ignatia has been offering a personalized rehabilitation plan to persons struggling with important addictions.Naturally, donations are still welcome. Click here for a donation form.
During the holidays, SGT does not take a vacation on safety. At the end of last year, SGT sponsored “Operation Red Nose” in the Lévis region in Quebec. With this commitment, SGT wishes to advance its awareness for road safety. “Operation Red Nose” is a non-profit program aiming to reduce the impact on road safety of drivers with reduced faculties.
Just before the first snowfall, the students from the "École St Joseph De Drummondville" school planted over one hundred trees in the Joly park, graciously made available by Drummondville's municipality. The site will now be known as the "Greenhouse Gas Reduction Path".
The project aims to plant trees as a demonstration of SGT's support of its drivers who eliminated engine idling.
This year also SGT actively participated in this trade show as a main sponsor. The show took place in Quebec city over 3 days in November and showcased over 200 exhibitors from Canada and the United States.
On opening day, SGT conducted a workshop hosted by Mr. Denis Coderre on the truck driver's career. To a room-full of drivers and mechanics Mr. Coderre delivered advice and guidance in a frank and elaborate discussion on the challenges and joys of the driver's job.
SGT participates in DéfiClimat, a government of Quebec initiative aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by altering habits through concrete actions. Click here for the video interview (Sorry, in french only)
This accreditation gives SGT access to simplified importation customs formalities in order to process low risk shipments at border crossings more rapidly and effectively. This will provide its customers more savings and time efficiencies.

SGT proudly sponsored “Toboggus”, the toboggan team of the University of Sherbrooke, Quebec. Toboggus participated in the Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race (GNCTR) which took place in February in Red Deer Alberta. The “rigid” construction criteria of the toboggan require that all parts that are in contact with the snow be made of concrete, that it must be equipped with a braking system and a steering mechanism as well as a roll bar. Toboggus took back four prizes including the “environmental prize” and ranked second for the “Circa” prize which rewards the use of flying ashes in the concrete mix.
SGT is a partner in the NASCO 2009 conference taking place in June in Québec city. North America's Super-Corridor Coalition aims to promote economical as well as logistical development along the corridor depicted on the map. Since NAFTA, SGT recognized the importance of integrating logistics in North America by establishing a branch in Laredo TX as well as an office in Monterrey-Mexico, both strategic platforms in transcontinental trade. SGT is now certified PIP by the Canada Border Agency in recognition of its compliance with this transborder security program. We take this opportunity to recognize the contribution of drivers and other partners who made this accreditation possible. SGT is also certified under the equivalent program in the USA called C-TPAT as well as EXPRES-FAST which is a program designed to speed up legitimate trade across the Canada-U.S. border.
Many jurisdictions including Québec now offer traffic, road conditions and sometime weather information over a toll-free phone number: 511. Use it for trip planning.
A new access control system has been installed at SGT's head office. This fully automated system integrates seamlessly with security and fleet management systems. SGT is a C-TPAT and PIP certified carrier. C-TPAT and PIP are border-crossing security programs of the US and Canadian governements
In recognition of its environmental efforts, SGT was awarded the highest mark by the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) with its SmartWay program. This mark is delivered to a carrier on its overall means to combat atmospheric pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. For more information
